The contractors for reforming and grading Bridge-street are pushing on the work. Some half-a-dozen teams are employed on the job, which will no doubt be completed before the wet weather sets in.

Lemon’s farm on Saturday last. The top wire of the, fence was fused and the post shattered. Two horses on the road were alto killed. 7
The annual meeting of householders for the election of School Coinmittee’s will be held ,on Monday evening next, the 22nd inst. As a rule considerable interest is manifested in these . elections in this and surrounding districts, and this year promises to be no exception. It would appear that the recent beneficial statute, known as the 1 Advances to Settlers Act,’ is being greatly taken advantage of by farmers and small settlers in and about Te Aroha. Mr Edwin Edwards, the valuer under this Act, spent four days this week, being busily engaged in as sessing various properties the whole tim). We have been requested by Mrs Davis to express her deep sense of the many kindnesses bestowed upon herself and family ! during their long residence'in Te Aroha. The goodness and generosity of Mr Evans, and other friends too numerous to mention, I will ever be held ia grateful memory.
There are no less than 114 cases set down for hearing at the Paeroa Warden’s Court on Tuesday next. The Piako County Council has determined to do away with the regular services of an engineer, and to employ those of two working foremen instead, each to have charge of a separate district, and when engineering or smyeying is required an engineer is to be specially engaged for the work. This change is to come into effect in three months’time.
Interest is being revived at Bendigo in the alleged discovery of a way of breaking roGk by introducing wires into the ore body and then applying electricity to it, and one of Bendigo 1 3 chief prospectors is offering a reward of ,£6O for a proof .of the effectiveness of the process,. A notification appears elsewhere to the that the partnership hitherto existing "between Messrs D. McKay and E. Smardon, coach proprietors, has been, dissolved. Mr D. McKay retires from the business, which will be carried on under the name of E. • Smardon, who is well-known in Te Aroha and surrounding districts, and who will no doubt receive mis share - of . public patronage. , - •■ .■ . , Mr.W, E. Thomas, surgeon, dentist, will arrive in Te Aroha at 6 o’clock on Wednesday evening next and remains here till the Tuesday. Mr Thomas iB bringing with him a complete stock of gas and "mechanical making artificial teeth, so that persons desiring any kind of work iii this line should take advantage of the opportunity. ' - -
On Thursday evening last a meeting of the Shooting Committee in connection with the Te A roha Rifles took place, when it was' decided that the second competition for Mr T. Mclndoe’s medal be fired off at the range on Thursday afternoon next. It was a 1 so resolved to challenge the Hamilton. Light Infantry to a friendly shooting match" to be held on the 24th of next month.
A cricket match will take place at Parawai, Thames, to-day between the Rover,and Morrinsville Cricket Clubs. - The following will represent the Rover:—Lang (2), Ross (2),Billing (2), Cole, James, Dufty, Buchan, ana Robertson. Main (Captain) , Pickett, Hogan. Heartueady, Grange, Orr, .Hinton, Clarke, Goldsbury, Vincent, Marshall, and Forrest. The Morrinsville team, in one of Mr Gallagher’s brakes, passed through Te Aroha and Paeroa last evening en x-oute for .the Thames They return to-morrow.
