NORTH ISLAND MAIN TRUNK RAILWAY.

The North Island Trunk Railway league met in Auckland on Monday to consider Mr Oliphant’s proposal for the construction of a road to Taranaki. The following lelegram was despatched on Monday morning to Hon Seddon, Wellington At a meetiug of the Northern Railway League to-day, it .was decided to ask the. Government that permission be given to Messrs Wilson and Hursthouso to' come to Auckland to confer with the league to estimate for the formation of a bridle track over the ' unformed portion of the route between Ohura and Stratford. We may observe that the league will contribute towards the cost of the work, and it is confidently ’expected Auckland citizens will supplement the fund. The League considers the work indicated can be completed during the present autumn season, and for this reason it is considered absolutely necessary that Mr Hurthouse should obtain permission without delay. In the event of Mr Hursthouse’s services not being available kindly supply the League with the services of some other competent officer instead, although the the League strongly prefers Mr Hurst-house.-—Signed; Win. Jennings, Frank Lawry.”
