PAEROA RAILWAY BRIDGE .
DRIVING THE FIRST PILE.
Yesterday afternoon there was a largo muster, on very short notice, of the townspeople of Paeroa, to take part in driving the centre pile of the railway bridge over the Ohinemuri river at Paeroa.
Mr James Me Andrew, Mr T, E, Shaw, and Messrs Moon and Corne3 represented the Government. Host Crosby, of the Royal Mail, supplied the champagne. There wore present Mr R. A. Wight, Mr JamesMcVeagh, Mr C. E. Mitchell, Mr Edwin Edwards, Mr John McGeehin and others.
The pile being in position and all ready, Mr C. F. Mitchell for the Tribune and Mr Edwin Edwards for the Gazette touk charge of the winch, and hauled the monkey into position, Takerei te Putu operating the trigger, and the first blow was given amid loud cheers.
Mr 0. E. Mitchell said he had great pleasure, as the only member of the Thames Valley Railway Committee then present, in acceding to the requost to give the health of the Hon. R. J. Seddon and his colleagues. They had given them tlio continuation of the railway to Paeroa, and he had no doubt it would bo carried on the Thames.
Mr George Crosby having responded on behalf of the Ministry, the proceedings closed.—Tribune.
