BAND CONCERT.
A concert and dance in aid of the funds of theTe Aroha Brass Band took place in the Public Hall on Thursday evening last. The weather was very threatening towards evening, which, no doubt, debarred many who otherwise would 'have been present. The programme, as printed, was very good, but through some cause or other unexplained, a number of persons mentioned thereon failed to make their appearance, consequently a certain amountof dissatisfaction was expressed. The full number of items promised, however, were rendered by several local amateurs present, who very kindly consented to assist.
The following are the names of those who took part: Overture, “ Felicia, 15 Band; song, Miss Hirst; song (comic) “He never smiled again,’ 5 Mr L. Buchan; Indian Club Exhibition, Mr Callaghan; Highland Fling, Mr H. Tonge; song, Miss Clarke; Instrumental trio, Mrs Wright (piano), Miss Stanley (violin), and Mr Hunter (violin); song, Mr J. Gordon; set of waltzes, “Mountain and Glen,” Band; song (comic), Mr Hanby ; song, Mr Sage; song (comic), Mr H. Tonge; song (comic), MrL. Buchan. . AIL the items rendered were given in the performers best style, and brought forth rounds of applause. The dance which was held at the close of the concert was largely patronised and passed off very well, refreshments being provided, which were heartily partaken of.
