MONTHLY MEETING. The ordinary monthly meeting of th® above Council was held in the Council Chambers, Morrinsville, on Thursday last, 14th inst. Present: Crs. mell (in chair), and a full The minutes of previous meeting were read and confirmed.
Correspondence.— From Mr Pavitfc, Returning Officer for the Te Aroha Riding, stating that Mr W. H. Herries was the only man nominated to fill thevacancy caused by the resignation of Mr Gage Brown, consequently he had. declared Mr Herries duly elected. From the Clerk of the "Waikato County Council, re payment of balance of license expenses, including a summons for the amount, to bo heard at. the Magistrate Court, Hamilton, on the 25th inst. Resolved that Mr Gilchrist be employed to defend theaction.
From Mr Squirrel!, re B. Montague’s : letter, signing himself as Chairman <44 the Gordon Settlement.. Stating that he (B. Montague) had been requested to resign, and, on his decling to. do so had been voted out of the chair by |- of the settlers, consequently he was no longer Chairman i~ From Mr Flatt, asking to form, a bridge across the County drain near his property. Application declined till the road was formed. Financial Statement. - Amount in credit, general account, L 389 17s 4dj; Te Aroha riding, Ll3-4s 9d ; Patelem riding, Ll 12 10s fid; cash deposits, LlO 10s; land fund Ll 6 18s 7d; Te l Aroha, interest, L 23 3s 4d. Total, LSG6 4s 6d. In debit: Patetere, interest, L 29 17s lid ; Matamata riding, L 6 10s 6d. Total, L3fi 8s 5d.. . , McCabe and Party wrote asking for an extension of time to finish their -contract. Resolved that the Govetumeat Jtab.asked to appoint Mr BagnellTto represent the- County on the Thames Harbour Board ; as the necessary steps had not been taken to elect a member. The following tenders f r work® ■ were'received. Contract No. 5. Clearing and forming Cambridge-Oxford road. Shaw, £3O; Stewart and Brumby, £29 18s Gd, (accepted). Contract No. 6, Sanding formation Thames-Waikato road, near Te Aroha. bridge. P. Bain, £l9 10s • R. Mackey, £2O ■¥* Chairman moved, and Cr Harrison seconded, that neither of these tenders be accepted, and that fresh tenders becalled for, to be returnable on Saturday, the 23rd inst.
Tho Engineer first to arrange with. P. Baine as to the price of sand, and the Council supply the same.. ■ Gordon Settlement.— Cr Herries said that he thought tho £3ft granted! by tho Council ought to be spent in the Gordon. Settlement, the work ought not to ho put off because the settlers could not agree whether they had a Chairman or not, and he moved that the Engineer be instructed to call tenders formation at Gordoii Settlement, tenders to he returned at next meeting. Or Harrison seconded the motion and it was agreed. The Engineer laid the specifications on the table for repairs to the Waiorongomai tramway, for which Mr Cad-r , man had promised a grant of £7O, and A also plans for repairs to the Upper Hill track for which a grant of £3O had been promised. Approved of by the Council.
Cr Harrisop asked if Mr Cadman’s promises were in writing. Cr Gavin retorted, we had not his promise to form Thompson’s track in writing yet we have got that, he-would fulfill his promises. Metaling Waiohongomai Road.— Cr Gavin reported that Mr Cadman had promised £IOO grant toward - the work, and the Engineer estimatedAhe cost would be £1A0( . Resolved that plans and specifications be prepared and forwarded to the Mming Inspector for his approval, and ’ satisfactory, that tenders be called for the work, returnable at next ! moetmg. u.^ r /? 0(^? on rew attention of onf that portion of the ->ji 1 names-Waikato road near Waihou saie yards, as likely to be in a bad stfue during the winter unless covered. Resolved that tenders be called for gravelling the 14 chains near the sale yards, tenders to be returnable at next meeting. Accounts for £IC7 10s 6d were pa -sed tor payment.
