MIRACULOUS ESCAPE .
On Thursday morning l last Harry James, a son of Mr J. James, of Te Aroha West, had a very narrow escape of being crushed to death. It appears that young James was driving a cart loaded with barbed wire, on top of, which was also a large double farm gate. On going down Bridge-street the gate came slightly forward striking the horse, with the result that the animal bolted, and after going some distance towards the railway bridge the cart and contents overturned, imprisoning the driver underneath. Willing hands were soon at work and quickly rescued the unfortunate young fellow from his perilous position. With the exception of receiving a severe shaking and several scratches we are glad to state that he was none the worse for his mishap.. The horse, which was a valuable one,; had one of its legs broken in two places, and has since bean destroyed.
