FRUIT PACKING.
A few months ago, tho Queenslander stated that since tea-tree hark-was first used as a packing material in the shipment of a test consignment of fruit to Canada further experiments have been made, which place it in the front rank of packing materials; in fact, it is declared to be the best medium yet discovered for that purpose. Experiments f made in the storage of lemons, oranges apples and other fruits have been satisfactory, oranges so protected keep (for four months, lemons for five months, Cd apples for three months. The ound bark is lighter than cork dust, d contains antiseptic properties, which aid in the preservation of fruit packed in it. It is a non-conductor of heat and moisture, is perfectly odourless, and is considerably cheaper than granulated Cork, which has hithorto been found to be tho best packing medium. The tea tree packing has been patented in all the Australian colonies, and is expected to be' soon on tho market. /
