FLOODS IN AUSTRALIA

Sydney, January 24. The overflow of tbe northern rivers, as was anticipated, has caused the flooding of an extensive area of country, and immense damage to property. ■ - Groat destruction to properly has been caused by floods in tho Maitland district.

Railway communicetion is still interrupted. Morpeth district is one stretch of water for miles. Not a farm escaped inundation.' A man named Corbett was drowned. The flood in tho Manning River is the heaviest since 1875.

Farms are submerged in all directions, but the water is now receding. Fifteen inches of rain fell in three days.

Brisbane, January 24. Marvboroug is preparing for floods. At Bundaborg six inches of rain has fallen since Sunday, and it is still raining. A flood in anticipated.
