WAIORONGOMAI.

(From our own correspondent.)

The sensation of the week 13 the picnic of the seven worthies. " These seven lads took advantage of the absence of Mrs Goldsworthy from her home to annex two valuable Pekin ducks, which they plucked and cooked along with some potatoes. Having gorged themselves they threw away what they could not eat. They have since however had the pleasure of paying eighteenpence each for their fun, and lucky I think they were to get off so cheap. Another housewife also lost two but got them returned; ana I hear a third complaining of fowls disappearing. I hear on the authority of one of these worthies that stealing poultry to sell to butchers is a fruitful source of pocket money to boys in Ponsonby. Mr Howe, of Waitoa, has' pegged out fifteen acres of prospecting area on the face of the hill, under the Buck, where nice gold was found some years ago. The gold at the Gordon is said to have been found at the Falls, where it has been picked up at least twice before. The prospectors are reported to claim having traced it from Waihi. A tolerably large order on our credulity. Mr Jeffrey has some twenty trucks ready to crush on trial from the Colonist tip, and if they are payable has 60 or -70 more available.

Mr Hanks has got in two nice stacks of oats iD good order, which ought to make excellent chaff, and Mr Mace has a fair amount also of equally good quality.
