Tn assuming the prqprietqrship of the Tic A bOI U # |Jews from Messrs Brett & Co., who, through Mr Rott, the managing partner in tlie fj|-m, have so ably conducted it for the lqst seyen and q half years, a few words will naturally be expected fronq me, as is customary pn such aq occasion. I will not, however, follow the course too often adqpted pf poking professions and promises of the great things to be accomplished ip the near future. I prefer to let my actions speak for themselves. I am come amqpgst you in the interests qf no local party, and my sole aim and desire wifl be tq further in eyery way the mining pud farming interests of the district wjth which I haye iiQ\y identified mysplf, qnd to make the wonderful curative properties of the Te Aroha thermal springs known as widely as possible. Ip carrying out these objepts, on which the prosperity of Te Aroha go greatly depends, I trust I inny be accprded the hearty sqppprt and liberifl aid qf every one in the cqionmnity who has at heart the interest of the district ip whioh we ail in cpinmop have a stoke, The preset# depression iq business circles cannot continue much longer —apd there are alyeady sigqs of a phange in the condition of affairs at Waiqrongomai which will hying about the re commencement of mining, either by the Te Aroha G. and fc>. Mining Company or by others who are willing and to work if that Company are not inclined to do sp. When this happens it means that the mining industyy, which lias been so lqugifl a stagnant condition, will at once revive, qiid every branch of business reap the beneficial results. The farming interest is also one of great Importance to this district, and on it a great deal of our prosperity will depend. It will he my aim to supply sqch information from tjme to time as may be of interest and usefulness to all settlers.
