Messrs Arthur and Buddle’s Weekly Re. port.—There have been live sales by auction Potatoes of good sample move off freely; mferi r arc not in demand. Seed ones move oft very slowly. Onions have been very quiet; buyers would not giro the prices required by tlio growers. Vegetables sold well. Fresti butter in short supply; best samples sold well. Bait butter qpiet, but little could be done at auction. Bacon and hams have not been in great demand; must bo first-class to command a price. Eggs havo not been very plentiful: more could have been sold. Cheese of good quality lias moved off freely, but little on hand. Grain quiet. Poultry : A good supply of fowls ; all sold at fair prices. Duel s sold well. lurkoys were not in great demand ; prices fairly good. No geese entered; tliore was a demand for a shipment to Fiji. Pigs: Hut few entered, there was a good demand. Property: Jwo have been sold this week, a farm near Nevv Lynn station at £5 per acre, and Mr J. Mr Alexander Aitken’s market report Produce of most kinds has been in good demand, and supply of all kinds large. Potatoes, table, have a considerable upward tendency ; prime Waikato in good sacks have made £4; others, £3los to £3 15s; Taranaki, £4 to £4 5s (supply not equal to demand); Southern lots are he’d for £4 10s; cnions coming forward freely, prime lotsjd to ljd; others, id to gd; kumeras, 4s 6d to 9s 4d the cwt; wheat scarce at 3s to 3s Zd; maize, none to hand ; oats, Is 9d to 2s 3d ; bran, local, £3 103 : Southern, £4; sharps, £4 5s ; carrots glutted, with no demand, at 14s to 20s per ton. Bacon and hams havo been somewhat scarcer, and met with satisfactory demand. Prime bacon, well-got-up, 6d to 6td; other lots, 3d to sd; hams, prime, 6d to 7d; others, 3fd to 5.1 ; roll bacon, -Id to sd; cheese, prime farmers’, 4d: poor, 3d to 31 d; factory, 4!d; loaves, 6d ; butter, fresh in short supply at 9d to llkl; keg butter, second-class and inferior grades glutted, with no demand ; prime quality very scarce at late values; eggs, supply has been larger at 10id to Is Id per dozen; honey. Apples, a large quantity entered for Friday's sale: Cooking sorts, 2id to 2ld ; dessert sorts, 2Jd to 3dLemons, large quantities entered ; demand not so brisk at 4d to lid per dozen. On Tuesday a sale of trees was held. Fruit trees of all kinds fetched high prices ; shrubs ruled low. Poultry of all kinds entered in large numbers. Poor old and small fowls realised Is 2d to is 4d ; good table fowls, is 6d to 2s ; roosters in good condition, Is lOd to 2s 7d ; poor, Is 5d to la 7d; laying hens, young, Is 8A to 2s 6d each ; ducks, 2s to 2s 6d oach; geese, 3s to 4s 3d each; turkeys, poor hens, 2s to 2s 6d each, heavy, 2s 9d to 3s 6d. gobblers, poor, 2s 9d to 3s, heavy, Is to 5s each; canaries, 2s to 8s each; pigeons, 9d to Is 6d. Pigs were entered in larger numbers ; demand was not so brisk as last week. White Yorkshires, 11s 6d to 15s 6d ; othor best lots, 8s to 10s ; medium lots, 5s 3d to 7s; rabbits, Waikato lots, Is to Is Id ; hares, 2s 3d to 2s 6d each ; deer, 2d per lb. Messrs Hunter & Nolan’s Weekly RePOhT.—Grain, horse feed, soeds, etc.; There has beeu an average supply aud steady demand at the previous week’s rates. We quote:— Feed oats, is lOd to 2s per bushel; maize, 3s to 3s 3d per bushel ; bran, £3 15s to £4 per ton ; chaff £1 10s to £2 10s per ton ; carrcts, £1 5s to £llos per ton. Horses have continued to he brought forward in increased numbers, and a good demand has existed for medium draught at advanced values, and other descriptions at previous rates. About an average number were disposed of at the Durham Y ardson Friday. There was steady competition throughout the sale, and almost without exception lota were cleared. Wc quote ; Hacks, at from £5 to £9 10s; light harness, £5 10s to £l2: modiuni draught, £6 103 to £ls 10s; unbroken colts, 16 10s to £l2 53. Wool, hides, skins, tallow, etc. : Very little wool has been brought forward, and the supply of hides has been barely up to the average, hut a largo number of skins have been disposed of at the Durham Yards. There was an upward tendency in tho value of cow hides. Wc quote : St< re ox, 3Jd to 4Hd ; light ox, 2d to 3d; cow, lid to 2ld; calfskins, 2d to 4:id per lb ; sheepskins, country. 2s to 4s 6deaoli; butchers’ skins. 3s lOd to 5s 9d : tallow. 16s to 17s 6d per cwt. Cattle; Very few storos have been brought forward, but a demand existed. Dairy cows were plentiful. and slow of salo at previous prices: also an adequate number of fat beasts, which sold without an alteration in value. There was a gcod number of l’at and dairy stock on Tuesday at Newmarket. Bidding was slow for dairies, but brisk for other descriptions at barely the previous week’s values. Some averages of steers were : £7 6s to £7, £6 19s to £6 ss, £5 17a 6.1 to £5 12s 9d : cows, £6 15s, £5 15s, £5, £4 53. Sheep: Barely the usual number were penned tit Newmarket on Tuesday, Wethers sold at from 13s to 16s 7d ; ewes, 11s 3d to 14s. Pigs yarded generally of a right description, and sold at low values. Messrs Alfred Buckland and Sons' Report.—At the Hnymarket during tho past week fodder has ranged from Is 6d to 2s 9d per cwt; chaff £2 15s to £3 10s ; potatoes, £3 9s to £3 15s the ton ; maize, 3s; oats. Is lid to 3s Id ; barley, 2s 6d the bushel. At the horse sale on Friday improved values were obtained. Useful draught ranged from £l3 to £2O; light harness and riding horses from £5 to £l3 lOs oaeli. At the hide and skin sale on Tuesday hides of all olasses were better worth. Skins fully kept late values, and mostly -ranged from 4s to 5s lOd each ; heavy ox hides, 4]d to sfil: good mediums, 3 : ;d ; cow and light ox, lid to 2jd; calfskins, 3Jd to 4ld the lb; tallow, 16s to 17s 6d the cwt. At the country cattle sales held at Pokeno and Drury the numbers yarded were limited. Drury cattle scarcely so free of sale. Fresh-conditioned cows and grown steers in good demand; three-year steers in moderate condition brought from £3 5s to £3 10s each. At Kenmora, on Thursday, dairy cattle were dull of sale, and several passed ; those sold ranged from £2 to £4 each. Store cattle in forward condition were in demand at full values. A pen of four-year-old steer 3 brought £4 7s, and dry cowtj £2 each, but backward cattle were comparatively at low values. Thirty-four two to three-year-pld steers sold for £2l3s each. Fat cattle, in full number, were lower in price than last week fully Is 6d the 1001 b; 17s was the ruling value for good oxen, and coarse or inferior at a lower price. A moderate market of sheep were also lower in price than last week. Fat two-tooth ewes were from 10s 9d to 12s 9d ; two-tooth wethers averaged 12a 9d; four-tooth wethers from 14s to 17s ; lambs. ss6d to 8s 6d. Pigs were plentiful; those fairly bred kept late values, but coarse pigs were almost unsaleable.
