Her Majesty the Queen was charmed with Madame Melba’s singing, and expressed herself proud of colonial talent. She presented Madame Melba with a superb jewelled brooch.
The Procedure Committee of the House of Commons have approved of the suggestion that the Government Bills should be resumed at the same stage next session at which they are left this. The remains of Adam Mickiewicz, the Polish poet, have been removed from France and re-interred ac Cracow, in Poland. The re-interment took place in the presence of 100,000 Poles. Lord Salisbury, Sir Hercules Robinson, the Marquis of Lothian, Lord Knutsford, Sir A. Blythe, Mr Braddon (Tasmania), and a representative of Queensland and Hew South Wales attended Lord Carnarvon’s funeral. Sir A. Blythe presented a wreath on behalf of Canada, Australia, and New Zealand.
