Thames, July 14.
May Queen.— -Cleaning np and retortinS took place on Saturday, for the handsome return of 148 oz of gold, obtained as follows : —2B loads general quartz, 107 oz ; and 401 b picked 9tone, 41oz. It is expected that an additional lOoz will be obtained from the silver and the berdans. This is the first crushing that has taken place from this mine, and the excellence of the yield has given general satisfaction here. Now that tho Nos. 1 and 4 lodes are well opened up, regular returns should come to hand in future. New Almjrnia.— Dix-on’s reef was cut in the crosscut at the battery level on Saturday. The reef is 2ft thick, but no gold has been seen in the quartz as yet. Calliope.— This licensed holding, which is situated in the Moanataiari Creek, and comprises 8 acres, was sold by auction on Saturday, and was knocked down to Mr Jas. Frater, of Auckland, for £45. Try Fluke. —Another good crushing is reported from this mine, 158 oz of retorted gold being the week’s roturn from the battery. This is ut the rate of six ounces per ton, and may be considered a splendid yield. May Queen.— The manager telegraphs “ Total return 1590 z ldwt of retorted gold. Price per oz, 57s 3d.” Dives. —Another haul of specimens is reported. To-day the manager wired: “ 251 b of picked stone from No. 5 etope west. Good show left.”
