Messrs Hunter and Nolan’s Weekly Re port.— Grain, horse feed, seeds, etc: The quan tities brought forward have been quite sufficient for requirements, and there has been little or no change in value. We quote feed oats at from Is lOd to 2s 2d; maize, 3s to 39 3d; barley, 2s 8d; wheat, 3s to 3s 3d per bushel; carrots, £1 lCs to £1159 per ton; pressed hay. £4 5s per ton. Horses have been a little more plentiful, but a good demand has existed, and there was rather an upward tendency in value. An increased number was submitu d by auction at the Durham Yards on Friday, and bidding was lively throughout the sale. Wc quote hacks at from £3 10s to £10: light draught and harness, £6 5s to £l6. Wool, hides, skins, tallow, etc. : The demand for h des has continued steady; exceptionally stout ox hides are far from sufficient for requirements, and command exceptional rates. Quite the usual number of hide-* were pitched at the Durham Yards on Tuesday, and a large number of skins were di*poscd of. Wo quote heavy ox hides, 3gd to 4id per lb; medium, 2d to 3Jd ; light ox and cow, lid to l|d; calfskii s, 2»a to 4td per lb; shoepskins, counter, 2s to 4s 3d ; butchers’. 3s to 5s lid; pelts. Is Id ,; bones, £4 10s ; tallow, 15s 6d per cwt. Cattle: The supply has not been large , and tiiere remained an unsatisfied demand for all descriptions. Stores at previous rates, and dairy and fat stock at an advance. There was rather a small muster at Newmarket on Tuesday. but an average one at Pukekohe on Wednesday. Good dairy cows wore well competed for, and sold at from £3 7s 6d to £6 ss. Fat steers sold at from 16s to 20s per 1001 b; cows, from 11s to 16s per 1001 b. Some averages of steers were—£7l4s, £6 17s 6d, £6 7s 6d, £4 ss; cows, £5. £3 12s 6d, £3. £2 17s 6d, £2 12s Ad. 'I ho Newmarket pens were fairly filled on Tuesday, and competition was keen throughout, at from Is 9d to Is lid per 81b. Wethers sold at from 15s to 19s 3d; CWO3, 12s to 16s 6d each; lambs, 12s 3d. Pigs yarded in limited number, but of good quality, sold at from 2£d to 3jd per lb live weight. Messrs A. Buckland and Sons’ Weekly Report.— At the Haymarket during tho past week a good supply of fodder was brought, oaten sheaves showing a slight advanc. on previous quotations, prime realising os per cwt. Hay and straw maintained former rates. Feed oats 2s, and dun 2s 2d; oatmeal, £7 to £9 per ton ; carrots, 30s; seed potatoes, £3 7s6dto£4 per ton, in lines. On Tuesday a number of lots in bides were pitched, prices for good quality (cows’) ruling per lb higher, wiih a demand at advanced rate. Heavy ox, 3:Jd to 4-d ; medium, 3J,d; light ox and cows', IJd to 2gd; calfskins, 3 : ;d to 4jd ; butchers’ sheepskins, 4s 5d to oslOd: statiou. 2s 7d to 4s sd; \ elts, lOd to Is 8d; wool, 6td; tallow’, 17s 3d to 18s. At the horse salo on Friday, grey gelding sold at £l6; pair horses, £23; several good animals sold at from £l3 5s to £!5. Hacks and light harness stock showed late valuee. At Waiuku sale, cattle (store and beef), brought good value to seller, whilst cows at their profit were in good demand. At Remuera. on Thursday, a full supply of stock sold briskly throughout the sale. Dairy cows at profit brought from £3 to £5 17s 6d each. Fat cattlo in usual supply; 260 sold brought from 17s to 20s the 1001 b; steers ranged from £6 to £lO each; sheep, plentiful, held their values; wethers ranged from 14s to 17s; ewes, 10s 6d to 13s 9d each. Pigs: Abundant quantity of coarse quality; well fatted fairly competed for, but store pigs at nominal prices. Messrs G. W. Binney and Sons’ Report.— At auction and privately we cleared a large catalogue of hides, sheepskins, etc. Trade and shipping buyers were woll represented, and market firm at quotations, with an upward move for all well-conditioned parcels. We quote :—Primo picked ox, 5d to sld : cow, 3d to 3}d ; ordinary lines of heavy ox, 3jd to 4d; cov,', lgd to 2d. Kip in good demand, and supply short, also well taken oil' calf. Kips, 2d to 3d : calf, 3id to 4}d; damaged of all classes, to Id per lb.' At each, local ox hides average from 18s to 20s each. Sheepskins: The heavy fall in value of crossbred tvools has caused a corresponding drop in skins equal to £d per lb. As fair average market value, we give :—Best, longwools, ss; crossbreds, 4s to 4s 6d; half-breds, 3s 6d to 4s; merino. 3s Id to 3s 9d each ; country dry, 4td to 5d per lb. Should the present aeries of wool sales close with an upward tendency, skins will be in brisk demand for the next four months. Should they close weak, values are bound to recede. Tallow, no change to report; bones, firm, from £4 12s 6d to £5 per ton for the best heavy clean stock, Boncdust: Southern, £5 103; JI (Sydney l , £6 per ton, ex store. Flax dull, no sales to report. Potatoes are inquired for, and we expect an advance on present values.
Mb-srs Arthur & Buddle’s Weekly Re port.—' There have been 11 sale* by auction held since our last week’s report. Thursday, at the residence of Mr O'Leary, Devonport, North Shore, his household furniture and effects. The attendance was large throughout, competition was brisk; prices on the whole wore very good. Suites brought £lolos to £2l ; Duchess suite, £9los; chesisof drawers, £4 10a; toilet sets, £3 6s ; dinner service, £3 ss. Produce : A good allround supply. Potatoes of good quality in fair demand. Bacon and hams well-got-up and cured, not too heavy, moved off freely. Good cheese moves off freely. Honcv is quiet. Fresh butter of good samplo sold well, inferior is difficult to sell at any price. Fresh eggs were short of supply. Poultry : A fair supply of fowls, prices were good; but few turkeys, prices fair; ducks, very small supply, price high; geese, fair supply, prices low; pigs, a good number entered, and prices were good. Potatoes, Hobart, 3s4d, 4s; inferior, 2s, 2s 8d; potatoes, new, jd. Mr Alex. Aitken's Market Retort.—Produce of most kinds quitted in good quantity at satisfactory prices. Potatoes of good quality are still short of demand, many lots coining forward in bad sacks; this prevents their being so d for shipping orders. Prime Taranaki lots have made £4; best Waikatos, £3 15s to £4; others, £3 10s; Canterbury, £4 5s to £4 10s; Oamaru, £4 15s to £5; kidneys (Southern), £4 to £4 10s: local, £3 to .£3 6s: new kidneys. Id to lid; Shepherds, Id. Onions are somewhat scarcer. Prime Southern, £6; very choice local, 3d to Id; poor, \d to Ad ; pumpkins (good), 2s6d to3s 9d ; others. Is 7d to 2s. Wheat: All lines cleared at 33 to 9s 3d; maize, 3s 2d to 3s 3d; bran, 3s lOd to 4s; sharps, £4 5s to £4 10s. Carrots : Coming to hand in large quantities, most lots sold at 16s to 25s per ton : red carrots, Is 3d to 159.1; cabbages, 3d to2s per sack; o;:t3, short, feed, 2s to 2s 2d: others, lsßd to Is lOd. Racon and hams have been in shorter supply, and the demand has been somewhat better. Prime bacon, 6d to 7d; medium, 4d to sd; hams, prime, 6d to 7d; others, 4d to 5Jd, Cheese market rather bare of good mild quality. Prime farmers’, 4d; Cambridge factory, 41d; factory mild loaves, 53d; farmers’, 4d. Honey: A quantity of prime section to baud, and found quick sale at 4d : tin, dull at 3d ; clover, none. Butter: The supply of fresh has boen small; prime, lOd to lOJd; medium, 8d to 9d; keg butter heavily stocked with medium grades, the demand for such is confined to a few kegs weekly for bakers' use at 3d to 4d; prime quality only fair supply, for this demand is also very limited, little or none being required for local use. Kgg supply short of demand at lOd to Is Id. Fruit: The supply -of apples has been good, but the quantity of Hobarts has slightly weakened the market. Some pippins realised from 2d to 21d; Ohinemuris. 13d to 2id ; Sturrners, 13d to 21d: Rome beauty, 2)d to 23d; Simmon's winter, 2}d to 23d; nickerjack. 2)d. to 3d; others, 2d to 2]d; poor and damaged, ltd to 13d. Lemons : Supply short, good dsniahd. Prices have ruled from 9d to Is 2d per dozen. Bananas: A small shipment ex Arawata realised from 2s 9d to 3s 3d per bunch. Cocoanuts, 7s to 8s 6d per sack. Poultry of all kinds weie entered in large numbers, and met with good demand at very satisfactory prices, First-clats table fowls realised Is 8d to 2s: medium lots. Is 4d to Is 7d ; poor, small, and old. Is Id to Is 2d ; roosters, in condition, 2s to ‘2s sd; others. Is 4d to Is 8d; ducks, 2s 3d to 2s 9d each ; ducklings, very small, 9d each : geese, 3s Id to 5s 3d each ; turkej a. good gobblers, 4s 6d to 6s; hens and small gobblers, 3s Id to 4s 3d ; pigeons, 9d to 13; canaries, 4s to 8s each; St. Bernard dog pups, 20s to 22s 6d each. Rabbits: Very short supply at Is Id to Is 2d per pair; hares, 2s to 2s 9d each. Venison, from Motufapu, 2d per lb. Pigs were entered in large numbers, but short of demand; best lots, 10s to 15s 3d: others, 9s to 9s 9d; poor and inferior lots, 4s 3d to 8s each.. AUCKLAND PRODUCE MARKET. Farm and Dairy Produce.
