Little Jack, the Boy Missionary.

A tablet to the memory of ‘Little Jack, the Boy Missionary, has been erected by Sunday school children, in Highgate Cemetery, London. Jack, as he was always called, was the son of Captain E. C. Hore, one of the many sailor pioneers of modern missions. He was born at Islington on February 4. 1882. and eleven weeks afterwardshestarted with hisparents to Zanzibar on board the ship Quetta, which carried twenty-one missionaries, including Bishop Hannington, who frequently helped to amuse and purse Jack, or, as ho was christened. John Howard, during the voyage. Jack wascarried in a wheelbarrow to Mamboia, where he remained for two and a half months, after which he was wheeled back to Zanzibar, and subsequently travelled right round the African continent, besides making up-river and other journeys into the interior Always accompanied by one or both of his parents, Jack soon became known to the natives asthelittlomissionary. The home of M rs Hore was at Knvala Island, Tanganyika, and the boy was held in high favour by the natives and by the Arabs visiting thoslation. MrsHororetu ned to England in 1888, ami the following year, after having come with safety through the dreaded African fever and other illnesses and hardships of life in the Hark Continent, Jack was stricken down with an attack of measles, which ended fatally on the sth of April, when he was but seven years old.
