GREYMOUTH COAL MINES.
• Greymouth, June 30. Mr Newton, President ol the Valley Miners’ Association, states tha c a meeting was held on Saturday even" ing to discuss Mr Kennedy’s proposals, but it was too thinly attended to warrant it arriving at any definite decision. It was decided that no action should be taken respecting Kennedy’s proposals . until there is an idle day, when all the miners would be represented at the general meeting, which is expected to be held during the week. The general feeling is that the miners will refuse to go back to the old system and allow the mines to be closed if the Company like. It is also understood that in such a case all the surface hands will receive notice and the mines be closed.
