Some time ago, says the “ Sydney Telegraph,” a letter was written from the Public Works Committee to the Department of Works with reference to the letter that had been forwarded by the Minister to the Committee, for their information, on the hydro-carbon tram motor invented by Mr J. A. Friend, of Auckland, New Zealand. The Committee, upon receipt of that letter, requested that the Minister would obtain plans and specifications of this motor with any reports upon it that may have been made. A letter has now been received from the Under-Secretary for Works, stating that application was made in accordance with the desire of the Committee to Mr Friend for plans, etc., and that a communication had been furnished by that gentleman intimating that he will be in Sydney about the middle of July next and will then submit these plans and snecifications and reports. The Committee have also been furnished by the Works Department with a letter sent to the Minister by Messrs King, Walker, and Co., of Auckland, New Zealand, desiring to bring under the notice of the Committee Jarman’s system of electric tram cars, and sending with the letter full particulars of the car,
