SOCIETY SHOCKED.
DIVERSIONS OF THE JERSEY LILY. London, May 20. Society is aghast at the latest diversions of Mrs Langtry. One night last week a supper was given at the St. James Theatre, at which were present Lord Lurgan and several Guardsmen with other men-about-town. Lively scenes took place, and at 3 o’clock in the morning it was proposed to run races around St. James Square, near by, to the astonishment of the well-tipped policemen, who grinned at the swells in evening dress, but with their coats off, racing around the inclosure, with Mrs Langtry and a couple of women, her boon companious, wrapped in fur coats, looking on and shrieking with laughter.
A well-known actor ran a sack race with an officer of the Guards, and he fell, and they rolled over each other in the mud. The gasman of the St. James Theatre then arranged hurdles for a race of a hundred yards between Mrs Langtry and a fashionable youth, the latter allowing the Lily twe* ty yards start, but he lost by two feet. After the race the party returned to the theatre, where Mrs Langtry distributed prizes, consisting of handkerchiefs, flowers* slippers and stockings. The proceedingsterminated at 6 a.m.
