UTILISING ROAD DRAINS.
[To The Editor]
Siß,r-In your report of the last meeting of the Piako County Council the Village settlers of Te Aroha West were charged with having drained their sections into the County drains and surcharged them with water. A similar charge was made
against the proprietors of the Mntamata estite, but which did not, appear in your issue. I have enclosed copy of the same which please insert in your next issue in order that your readers may see that large settlers are responsible for damage through surcharging drains as well as small ones. It is singular that the Waiton Road Board, although com r posed of some of the samej men, cannot see that the drainage of a portion of the Grant and Foster Block through the deferred payment settlers land is a parallel case.—l am, etc., Thos. Tat^or. Waihou, June 24th ( 1890. Copy of report referred to : Road: Mr Bandea reported that the proprietors of the Mutamata estate had drained a portion of their property into the County draip at Piuriri, thereby endangering the road. The manager was also required to at once protect the road from damage. The Engineer was authorised, to .put in somo pipes op the Jfichfield-Te Aroha and Cambridge-'i'aqraßgft road where required.
