DRAUGHT ITEMS,
Thedraught-players who are promoting the formation of a Draughts Club in this city met last Saturday evening at Mr Grubb’s residence, Karangahape Road. There was a good attendance, the vice-president, Mr Ross, occupying the chair. The entries for the forthcoming tourney closed at 9 p.m., at which hour some thirty names had been given in. The question of a desirable place for holding tho tourney and club meetings in was fully discussed. It was eventually agreed that Mr Grubb’s room be taken nightly (pro tem. ),and that tho Committee make further inquiries as to hiring a suitable place of meeting in a central position. Mr Gunthorp was elected to the position of manager of the tourney arrangements in addition to his office of handicapper. It was decided that the nights of play be Tuesday and Friday evenings, beginning at 7 p.m. and ceasing at 10 p.m., play commencing on Friday, the 6th. The sealed handicap will be handed in in a day or so, and everything will be in readiness to start at the time mentioned. The players are earnestly requested to meet punctually on the nights of play. The tourney is to be played in two sections of equal numbers, five out of each section to form a final section, and play off for prizes.
