THE CHILLED MEAT INDUSTRY IN QUEENSLAND.
The first attempt to bring chided meat in refrigerating cars from the country districts in Queensland has proved only a partial success. 150 wethers from Burenda were killed at Charleville, and placed in the cars there on Sunday morning. They arrived in Brisbane, and, on being opened, those in the Howlin car were found to be more or less tainted, but those in the Ipswich car were sound. The weather was very unfavourable for the trial, being close, wet, and muggy both at the time of killing and since. It is also stated that the carcases were not properly dressed, especially those in the Howlin car. The meat was sold by auction. The Ipswich car carcases averaged 3-id per lb, and the Howlin car carcases sold at an average of 3s 6d each, the average weight being about 561 b.
