The first Interprovincial Association match that has ever been played in New Zealand, took place at Lancaster Park, Christchurch, on Monday, 26th May, between the representatives of Canterbury and Otago. As there is only one club in Christchurch, while they have several in Otago, it was anticipated that the Otagans would be the stronger team, but such did not prove the case, as Canterbury took the lead soon after the start and the final issue of the game never appeared in doubt afterwards.
