Waitoa Road Board.

[From our own Correspondent ] The ordinary monthly meeting of the Waitoa Road Board took place in.the Nottingham Castle Hotel, Morrinsville, on Saturday, the 31st May, ult. Present : Messrs Chcpmell (chairman;, Hanmer, Parr, and Turnbull.

Correspondence : Johnson’s Creek Drain, Te Aroha West : Among the correspondence read was a letter received from Messrs T, Taylor, C. Thaxter, j. Rowe, M. O’Doni ghue, and N. Mikkelsen, re Johnson's Creek drainage question-

Mr E. W. Hanmer promised to give a handsome subscription towards the cost of widening Johnson's Creek drain sufficiently to carry off all the water without Hooding these settler’s land provided they also give suitable subscriptions, either iu money or labour for the same purpose. As this work would benefit the road, which at that place gets flooded it seems during heavy rains, the Board also pron ised to subsidise the work. To atoid loss of time by correspondence it was decided that one of the members (Mr It. Parr) bo requested t* confer with Messrs Taylor and the others ns to what they ara prepared to do in the mutter of widening the drain referred to, aud if a satisfactory arrangement is at rived at the Engineer will call for tenders for the work forthwith.

Road Repairs Te Aroha West : A letter was received fiom Mr H. W. Reynolds re improvin. the road leading to the one along his section trout the Stanley road. The Engineer was instructed to get the work done aud also the work requiied on what is called Grattan’s road, and also on Lovegrove's road. Tenders : The following tenders were received for the coutrnct n*ur Holden’s : Hansen. LlB ; C. Willis, Ll 5 11s; P. Dillon, Ll 4 J2s;C. B.Edwards, Ll 4 2s 6d ; F. McDevitt, Ll 3 ; O. McCabe, Ll 3 ; Brokenshire, Li2 las 6d ; Johnson and Robinson, Lll J6s ;C. Collins. LlO Ids ; J. Shine, Ly 14s ; E, Voysey, L 9 7s 61 (accepted). The following tenders were received for the contract on the Stanley road : C. Murphy, Is 3d per chain ; C. Willis, Is 3d ; Johnson and Robinson, Is ; A. Edwards, lOd ; 0.. McCabe, 9dJ. Collins. 9d ; Brokenshire 8d ; 0. Ryan, 8d ; J. Shine, 8d ; E. Voysey, 4d (accepted). V. The following tenders were receivad for the contract on Waiorongomai road : C. Murphy, Is Robinson, Is ;■ C. Willis, Is ; O. McCabe, lOd ; J. Shine, 9d ; J. Collins, 9d ; A. Edwards, 8d ; C. Ryan, 8d ; Brokenswire, 6d ; E. Voysey, 3d (accepted). Accounts amounting to L 62 8s 8d were passed for payment.
