MINING NEWS.
Orlando. —Dabs of gold were s een to-da in the drive on the Bendigo reef, and also in the second stope on Carpenter’s reef. Magnolia. —The low level is now well underway. Gem (Waiomo). —Two tons of good ore have been brought to town, and will be calcined, crushed and heated by the Watson* Denny pans. Caledonian.— Crushing has been com* 5 mcnced. Royal Oak (Coromandel).—The rise from No. 3 level still continues to show a little gold in the reef going up. About 21bs picked stone was obtained the last break-' ing down. The reef is not speedily improving, although the ground is looking much better for gold. In rising on No. 3 run from the intermediate level the reef is solid at present, showing the cross runs welldefined in both walls. I have bagged the quartz, which is about 1 ton, and about 801bs picked stone, which I expect will realise about 40oz.
