Auckland, May 12. On Saturday afternoon the judges made the awards tor the general competition for prizes offered by the Auckland Society of Arte. The result of the competition is as follows Class 1., Studies by Pupils or Amateurs. (A) In Crayons, Charcoal, or Monochrome. --Section 1, life size, study of head from life, 2 entries : No award. Section 2, study of head, bust, or figure, from the antique, life size, 9 entries : G. W. Purchas, Ist prize ; Walter E. Harvie, honourable mention. Section 3, shaded study from the round, ornament, imperial, 6 entries ; Jos. Yearbury, Ist prize ; H. M. Jones, honourable mention. (B) In Colour —Section 4, study from still life, flowers or foliage, in oil, 12entries : E. E. Munnings, Christchurch, Ist Mrs Arthur P. Wilson, 2nd; Mrs J. C. Buekland, 3rd. Section 5, study of still life, flowers or foliage, in watercolour, 8 entries : Jos. Yearbury, Ist prize ; Mrs Iletley, honourable mention. Section 7, study of still life, New Zealand fish, in any medium, 1 entry : No award. Class 11., Original Studies, Direct from Nature. —Section 8, study of animal life, in any medium, 1 entry : No award. Section 9, landscape or marine study, in oil, 5 entries : Dora Meeson (Christchurch), Ist prize ; Miss A. Fenton, honourable mention. Section 10, landsca: eor marine study, in watercolour, 4 entries : Robert Pheney, Ist prize. Section 11, landscape or marine study, in monochrome, 1 entry : No competition. Section 12, study of a native tree, in oil, watercolour, or monochrome, 5 entries: Horace M. Jones, Ist prize ; C. F. Goldie, honourable mention. Class 111., Original Designs in any Medium, New Zealand Subjects.—Section 13, design for decorative panel, 4 entries : Dora Meeson (Christchurch), Ist prize; Miss Cora Puckey, honourable mention. Section 14, study of New Zealand foliage in outline, accompanied by the same conventionally treated for decorative purposes :No competition. Section 15, plaque or vase painted, 3 entries : Miss Kate Bail, Ist prize. Class IV., Modelling in Clay or Wax. —Section 16, best original statuette bust, medallion, or group : No competition. Special Prize. —Section 17, life study—a special prize, the gift of Mrs R. C. Parkinson,for the best study of a head in oils or water colours, on canvas or paper, size optional, 1 entry : No competition. Section 18, photography—a special prize of two guineas, the gift of H. B. Morton, Esq , for the best half-dozen photographs of any subject or subjects, the work in all respects, exposure, developing, retouching, printing, toning, and mounting, of a bona fuie amateur, 3 entries. Special prize, the gift of Mr H. B. Morton, for the best picture in oil or water colours illustrating the word “ Waiting, ’ 5 entries : Walter Wright, Ist prize; Mary E. Morton, h nouruble mention. For the best work in the whole of the competitions, Society’s silver medal : Walter Wright. For second best work in the whole of the competitions, Society’s bronze medal: Robert Pheney. Awards have not yet been made in the photographic department, as it will be requisite to call in special judges.
