ALLOWANCE TO GELDINGS.

A curious case has cropped up at Shepparton in Victoria. At the races held by this club in February the Sires’ Produce Stakes were won by Mr M. Cussen’s Last (’all, but a protest was entered by Mr Moran, owner of Toolamba, the second horse, on the ground that the winner had not carried the required weight, Bst 101 b. Last Cali weighed out at Bst 51b, while the other geldings and colts weighed out at Bst 101 b, and the fillies at Bst 7lb. But when Last Call came to weigh in, the rider only turned the scale at Bsb b. The owner, however, claimed an allowance of 51b as a gelding, but it was objected that, as he had not claimed this at the tim6 of starting, he was not entitled to it afterward; The matter, after being under consideration for some months, was eventually decided in favour of Toolamba, the second horse.
