him to contest the Te Arolm electorate, j Mr Clements was spokesman, and asked Mr Cbepniell toi allow himself tp le nominated, stating lie believed the whole of those present would pledge themselves to do their utmost to secure liis returned. He (Mr Chepmell) had been along time in the district, was well known to them all, and they considered he would make a- fit; ing representative. Mr Chepmell thanked the deputation for the confidence they placed in him, butstuted lie could notgivo an immediate answer. There were many conflicting interests and questions that lie would require to carefully consider. If he did stand, and was relumed, he would do his best for the electorate, but not to the detriment of other parts of the colony. He promised to give a definite reply in a fortnight. Mr Chepmell has done much to promote the development of the Te Arolia goldfield, and for the advancement of the district generally, the requirements of which he is fully conversant with ; and should he decide to contest the electorate, will be sure to receive a large measure of support.
