MIKING NEWS.
April 25. Way Queen’. —The prospects of this mine continue excellent, and it promises to soon come to the front and produce regular and satisfactory returns, as colours and dabs of gold have been for Borne time past freely seen in both the Noe. 1 and 4 lodes, and a few pounds of picked stone occasionally obtained. For the present, however, the drive on No. 4 reef is suspended, as the air is somewhat light, but this difficulty will be removed as soon as the crosscut from the shaft holes through into it, and thus creates a current of air. Driving will then be puehed ahead with all possible expedition hillward on this reef, which looks really well in the face, and there is an excellent chance of something good being got as tho drive progresses, he country being a splendid class of white andstone, interlaced with nice mineral reins. Lone Hand.— -Driving east, or hillward, was commenced yesterday (Thursday) with one shift on the Manchester reef. The western drive on the same reef should arrive undorneath the winze by Monday
next, when a rise will be put up to meet the winze. S toping will then be proceeded with. New Moanataiart.— The Reuben Parr reef in the second stope over the eastern drive from the bottom of the winze was broken down yesterday afternoon, when colours of gold were seen in the quartz, and 101 b picked stone obtained. Royal Oak (Coromandel). —During the past week there has been a slight change for the better in the mine. The reef in rise in No. 3 level has been gradually improving in size and showing gold more regularly on the cross lead. The ground has also become better working and more favourable in appearance for gold. Sinking on No. 3 run, the reef is getting much more confined towards the cross lead, and a better class of rock is coming in. The reef continues to carry loose prospects. — Peter Reid. Golden Streak (Kuaotunu). —The mine
manager reports :In trenching I have discovered two reefs from eighteen inches to two feeb in width showing good prospects after pounding and washing, and which no doubt will prove remunerative at a lower level. I have let a contract for driving 100 feet to intersect a number of reefs known to run through the north-east end of your property. They have already driven 44 feet through a good class of sandstone country with indications of solid stone being met with. April 26. New' Moanataiari. —The work of driving the main tunnel has been stopped for the present, and a start will be made to put in a crosscut on the left-hand side of the tunnel some little distance back from the face. As soon as this crosscut has been driven a few feet it is intended to put up a rise for the purpose of connecting with the intermediate level upon the Reuben Parr reef, below the Point Russell level. This is being done because the point has been passed where the underlie of the Reuben Parr reef should have been met with in the main tunnel.
Norfolk. —The manager telegraphed today that the western drive was into solid ground. Californian reef is five feet in width, and prospects well throughout. This caused shares to advance from 2s to 2s sd.
Trenton. —The hangingwall leader east has been broken down, and 31bs of picked atone were obtained.
