AGRICULTURAL STATISTICS.
Mr Thomas Seaman has just completed the annual agricultural statistics for nine counties in the North Island. The returns show an enormous decrease in the area of land under grass. The statistics are as follows : Otamatea County. and 21 leaseholds, 79 acres of land broken up, but not in crop, 64 acres in wheat estimated to produce 1,008 bushels, 153 acres in green oats, and 102 for grain, 5 acres barley, 34 acres green maize, and 64 for grain, 22 acres in peas, 20 acres beans, 5 acres for ensilage, 1,762 acres in grass, 19,182 acres surface sown grass, 1,071 acres for grass seed, 43 acres in potatoes, 40 acres turnips and similar crops, 20 acres garden, 196 acres orchard, making a total number of acres under crop and in grass of 21,705. The horned cattle amount to 4,725.
