INFLUENZA IN SYDNEY.

SEVERAL CASES ON H.M.S. RAPID. Yesterday morning, says Die Sydney “ Telegtaph” of recent date, H.M.s. Rapid arrived in port from Hobart, having had influenza on board during the voyage. Nine cases occurred on March 28, ii on - the 29th, four on the 30th, six on the 31st, eight on April Ist, and two yesterday. The duration of the illness is about four days. At present there are 21 cases on the vessel, most of the persons being now more or less convalescent. The recent cases have been much lighter than the first were. The vessel on arrival in port was allowed to anchor in Farm Cove on the understanding that no communication should be held with the other vessels or with the shore until the instructions of the Board of Health had been obtained. A meeting of the Board was held and it was decided that quarantine should not be insisted upon, on condition that leave of absence from the ship should not be allowed in the case of anyone suffering from the disease or for some days after recovery. Also that no stranger bo permitted to board the vessol whilst the attack continued. It is reported that there are several cases of influenza on H.M.s. Orlando, and upon her arrival here she will be dealt with in a similar way. The members of the Board of Health are influenced in their decision in this matter by the fact that a number of cases of influenza have been known by 7 them to have existed in Sydney for some few days past.
