THE TONGUE.
“The boneless tongim ho small and weak Can crush and kill,’ declared the Greek, ‘The tongue destro} s a greater horde, ’ The Turk asserts, ‘ than does the sword.’ T! e Persian proverb wisely saitli, ‘ A lengthy tongue—an early death,’ Or sometimes lakes this form instead, ‘Dual let >onr tongue cutoff your head.’ ‘The tongue can speak a word whose speed.’ Says the Chinese, ‘outstrips the steeu.’ While Arab sages this impart, ‘The tongue’s great store house is the heart.’ From Hebrew v.it the maxim sprang. ‘Though feet should slip ne’er let the tongue.’ The sacred writer crowns th? whole, ‘Who keeps his tongue doth keep his sou!.’
