H.M.S. RAMBLER.
H.M.S. Rambler, one of the screw surveying vessels on the Australian naval station, is now at Sydney from Hobart, en route to China, having been commissioned at Hobart for service on the China Station. At Hobart she was refitted for service in the China Sea. For some time past she was surveying along the New Guinea Coast, in Torres Straits. The Rambler carries four guns, and is in command of Commander Llewellyn S. Dawson. Her officers and men are the same as were hero in H.M.S. Myrmidon two years ago, and left Sydney in"’ the Myrmidon for Hongkong, where their ship was condemned as unfit for further service, and was sold, realising £3,000. The Rambler was built by Elder, of Glasgow, in ISBO, and steams at about 10-£ knots. She came down from New Guinea by way of Cambridge Gulf along tho West Coast and Fremantle. At Albany she re-surveyed the port there (King George’s Sound), and then went on to Hobart direct. She remains at Sydney about a month.
