A debate on free trade v, protection between Henry George apd Mr Trenwith, M.P., Icok place in the Exhibition building last night. George was compelled to dwell on general principles, and being a stranger, was unable to give a local colouring to his arguments. Trcnwitli on the contrary persisted in dealing with local instances in support of his contention, The audience appeared to be evenly divided;
