HAWKERS’ LICENSES.

IMPORTANT JUDGMENT. At Wellington, on April 2nd, Mr Justice Richmond delivered a julgment, which will he regarded by many trades as one of considerable importance. It is certainly one of general interest. The following are the facts to which the judgment relates :—Butchers, milkmen, or milk companies and others, send round their carts to various plates of the city and suburbs, and the drivers carry steelyards to weigh the meat they sell ; milkmen carry the vessels for measuring their milk. Are these men “ hawkers” who require to he licensed ? If so, the license would mean a goodly increase of revenue to Corporations The subject came before the Supreme Court upon appeal fiom the Resident Magistrate, who held that they are not hawkers within the meaning of the Municipal Corporations Act. Justice Richmond is of the same opinion. The judgment of the inferior Court was confirmed.
