Burd Helen, although already under the whip, could not improve her position, and Meta passed her, while Patchwork rapidly overhauled, his horses,, usd, at the turn into the straight he had a neck the best of Cynical, ivith Meta next, and Hilda fast coming to the front. All down the straight the ivhips 'vere at work, but the top-weight out-paced the outsider, and gained a clever ivin by a neck from Patchwork, ivho was just clear of Cynical. Time, 2min 41 l-sbh sec. In the straight Taylor brought up Antelope ivith a determined run, but the mare ii r as unable to got on terms ivith the leaders, and after a great finish Strephon passed the post a winner by a neck from Loch Ness, who ivas just clear of Antelope. Mr White’s Derby candidate, Kirkham, is being steadily trained, and is sent for a. gallop once every day ; bub Narellan, the other nominee, has been granted a spell, and at present does nob take his usual! exercise. The Australian horse Chicago, ivho started in the Lincoln Trial Stakes, appeared to be very sore, and did not run anything like up to his form. It is thought that Plutarch was merely started in the Trial Stakes to qualify for future events. The course ivas very iveb and the goingheavy.
