No marshalling troop, no bivouac song, No banner to gleam or wave ! But oil, those battles ! they last so long— From babyhood to the grave ! A widow, occupying a l».rge house in a fashionable quarter in London, was pressed by her.creditors, and to get out of her difficulties, she fell on the following plan: She Rent for a.wealthy solicitor—a bachelor—to make her will, and by it she disposed of between fifty and sixty thousand (imaginary) pounds. The. solicitor proposed soon afterwards,-was accepted, and found himself the happy husband of a penniless adventuress. H. Millar, a shoemaker of Cincinnati,; lias left a family somewhat mixed. He lias left four daughter, three of whom are stepsisters and cousins of. each other, fend the fourth is not only .st a p-sister but aunt of the other three. His last wife was sister-in-law of her daughters and stepmother of her grand children. A very little consideration will show how Millar achieved this feat. One of the attractions at the Pittsburg Exposition is a monster roll of paper. It is 9G inches wide,. 14 miles long, and •weighs 2,65811>8. The mammoth roll is perfect, not having a hole or break in it. It is, a great curiosity even among papermakers, and it is said to be the largest sheet ever turned out of any mill. A single sheet of paper 6 feet wide and 7£ miles in length lias been made at the Watertown (N.Y) Paper Works. It weighed 2,2071b5, and was made and rolled entire without a single break.—English Mechanic.
