It is intimated that the Hon. James White intends holding annual yearling sales in future, so that in the course of a few years we should have the progeny of Chester and Martini-Henry scattered through the colonies.
Uranus is at work in Hawke’s Bay, and is said to be as fresh as a two-year-old. At the sale of Mr J. Harper’s racehorses in Melbourne, Mr A. Todd gave 270 guineas for a well-known performer named Merry Merrick, by First King. Nelson’s half-brother Bronte, located at Napier, is being tried at the jumping game. He has been pub over small hurdles, but did not acquit himself very well at first, bub after be had rapped himself a few times he is reported to have done better.
“ Hippo ” hears that several Hawke’s Bay settlers have been trying to form a company to purchase the Auckland Stud Company’s stock without the land, Orient, who won the Marlborough Steeplechase recently, has run 335 races. He is now fifteen years old. J. Rae has entered Titokowaru for several hurdle races that are to be run in and about Sydney. Guy Fawkes figures in the steeplechases. An Aucklander has been negotiating this week for the purchase of Wakatipu, but at the time of writing I have not heard whether the sale was concluded.
