STRANGE SUICIDE

THE CAUSE A FALLING INCOME.

Invercargill, this day. A sensation was caused to-day on it becoming known that Chas. Freeman, an old and respected citizen, was found hanging dead in an outhouse attached to his dwelling. Deceased, although 71 years of age, was remarkably robust and active in habits and apparently the last man who would commit suicide. He owned considerable property in Dunedin and Invercargill, valued at about £7OOO, and had invested a good deal in mining, including Nerthorne Reefs and the Company’s shares proved remunerative. He left a note addressed to several business men stating that his will in favour of his widow would be found in the safe, and asking them to take charge of his affairs and forgive him because they knew his trouble. He had been despondent at the falling off in his income.
