Police Court PAEROA.

THURSDAY, MARCH 20th, 1890.

(Before Messrs N. Ivenny, and J, Ilott, J.’sP.). Charge of Horse Stealing Resumed : Two witnesses, called by the William Dodd and Francis Win. Brown, were examined, also a witness named Alexander Mackay, but their evidence in no way upset that tendered on behalf of the prosecution. The Bench committed accused to take his trial at the next sitting of the Supreme Court, Auckland. Accused asked to be allowed bail. The request was acceded to, provided , two approved sureties were found of £25 each, and himself in LSO. Larceny of a Bridle : Alexander Angus was charged by the police with stealing a bridle of the value of 6s, the property of Lewis Alexander, on or about 23rd February. By permission of the Bench this case was withdrawn. Larceny of a Saddle : Alexander Angus was charged with the larceny of a saddle, the property of Messrs Bradley and Co. Accused was found gu Ity and sentenced to two month’s imprisonment with hard labour. The saddle and bridle referred to were those made use of by accused when he took away the horse. Obtaining Money by False Pretences: Alexander Angus was charged with obtaining £2 from W. Buchanan, of Paeroa, on false pretences ; by selling a bullock to him, the property of John W. Thorp. Found guilty and sentenced to seven days imprisonment without hard labour. The Bench, in deliveiing senterce, stated it was a very light one, as they took into consideration the that Mr Buchanan was greatly to blame for the loose way in which lie accepted ac oused’s statement that lie had authority to sell Mr Thorp’s bullock : anil also Mr Thorp had condoned the offence hv since accepting the money when settling up with accused. Horse Stealing: Frederick Colcord ■was charged with stealing a filly of the value of £2, the property of George Cooper, of Paeroa. Committed to take itis trial at the next Supreme Court sittings in Auckland. Accused asked for bail, which the Bench agreed to allow, himself in £SO and two approved sureties of £25 each.
