The return match, Paerua v. Te Aroha, was played in Mr.sLipsey’s paddock, I\Arolia, m Saturday- last. A good ‘pitch’ had beeu prepared, and tlie weather was all that could, be desired. 'The Paeroa • team arrived nt Te Aroha about II a.m., and the wickets were pitched at noon. Pueroa won the toss, and sent the home team to tlie wickets. The play was slow throughout, till Cftlderwood ana Biggs got together, when Biggs scored It), and and Calderwood 8 in fine style, when Biggs was smartly caught at long on by Stewart Hirst made a good clean hit for 5, but it was smartly fielded up by Coote. Throughout tho game the Paeroa men* fielded well, seldom missing a chance, and McGregor was certainly the light man in the light place, scarcely a bye being got owing to liis smart long stopping. The Te Aroha men were disposed of for 54 runs, and (hen Paeroa took their stand at the wickets. Toe Paeroa fielding was good, end ilie Te Aroliti men were not behindhand in this respect, wol'st tlie bowling of Meld ruin and Burnett gave the visitors all they could do to protect the'v stumps, After about an hours slow play the Paeroa men were all out for 30. Te Aroha again went to the wickets, but runs were- not put together as fast as before, the principal scores being Meld rum, who retired with 11, after iie lmd been caught by MoGruer, uud Burnett who also re tired for 11,9 of which he got in three hits. The bowling of Hampden during this innings was good, and it was with great difficulty that Te Aroha managed to put together 37 runs. It was. seen that the visitors had an uphill game before them; the fielding of Te Arolia was everything that could be desired, and only one wicket was bowled, the majority of the players being Caught. The Paeroa team were all disposed of for 30 runs, Te Aroha winning the match by 32. For Te Aroha the wicket keeping of Mr Pavitt was exceedingly good, while for Paeroa the wicket keeping of Mr Brainley was much admired. A substantial luncheon was provided for the visitors by the members of the Te Arolia Cricket Club, to which ample justice wus done. Messrs Bygrave, Johnson, and Crump, as umpires gave ever}' satisfaction. Before- leaving the visitors bad a dip in t.ie hot baths, ai d returned home, having spent a very enjoyable; day..
