AUSTRALIAN FLOODS.
RAILWAY TRAFFIC BLOCKED. Sydney, this day. The railway lines have been blocked in various places by the damage caused by floods. Kempsey, which is situated on the Macieay River, about 280 miles N.E. of Sydney, and Smithtown, also situated on the Macieay River, 306 miles north of Sydney, are under water. Smithtown is submerged by water twelve feet deep. Boats on the Macleiv river and steamers are engaged in rescuing; people from their houses. Three hundred persons have taken refuge on a dredge in the Lower Macieay River. All of the townships along the banks of the. Richmond River are flooded. Grafton, situated on the Clarence River, about 350 miles distant from Sydney, is under water, and the river is stiii rising. So far no htaJities have been reported, ; ..V
