KUAOTUNU GOLDFIELD.

ACTIVE OPERATIONS. The whole of the Try Fluke machinery is now on the site, and (writes our correspondent) should be in working order in three months at the outside. The mine is looking even better than ever. The winze is now down fully 45 feet, the reef is 4 feet in width, and gold is plainly seen to the naked eye freely distributed through the stone; the stone is intermixed with black silica and iron rust, which appears bo be a remarkable indication for gold in this district, in the low level. The contractors are making good headway. The country driven through is all that could be desired for gold. A contract has been let for packing fifteen tons to the landing, which should be finished early next week. This stuff should not be expected to yield as well as the last trial lots sent to the Thames, as it is taken and bagged just asit is broken from the face. There is about 100 loads lying in the paddocks from which the last trials were selected, and which should yield 4 to soz to the ton, so that if both parcels are expected to yield the same it would be hardly fair to surmise that this parcel will yield as well as the last in the face of the above ; however, a good yield is anticipated. Carbine.— ln the Carbine good progress is made driving north on the reef. The reef is fully four feet thick, and appears to improve both in appearance and prospects. The shareholders intend to form a company at an early date. The Mariposa, adjoining the Carbine, are driving another level, which should give 150 feet of backs. The John Bull have, started driving on their reef, which is a very large body of stone, fully 17 feet thick, and prospects for loz throughout the whole width. WAITAIA DISTRICT. Woodcock and Wilson will have their 10 tons ready for shipment along with the Try Fluke. This stuff should yield 2to 3oz bo the ton, and is taken and bagged just as it is broken from the reef, which is 2 feet 6 inches in width. •Snell’s Claim. —The shareholders are busy breaking out a 10-ton lob, which should yield iairly. When all these trials are finished one will then be able to form an estimate of this field. Up to the present time there has nob been one duffer crushing, and the different trials sent away have been taken from claims fully 3 miles apart. The Obama, I hear, are busy breaking out a 100-ton parcel to be sent to the Thames. I did nob visit the mine, as I have been informed thaff there is a door on the workings, and the manager has nob yet arranged visiting days.. Nemesis. —This ground lies north-east of the Otama. The proprietors have cub several reefs, all carrying gold. The Mascotte people are cutting a deep trench right through their ground, and up to the present two reefs have been cut, both carrying good gold. Trenching has also been started in the Goldstreak tor the Black Jack and other leaders known to run through the ground. Midas, the contractor, finished his 100 feet of driving. Mr Clayforth intends driving on 150 feet till he intersects the reefs carrying gold on the surface. The Lucky Hit are bagging a trial lob of 5 tons from a large body of stone running east and west. This lobshouldyieldlbo 2oz to the ton.
