Entertainment at Morrins ville.
On Wednesday evening last an entertainment in connection with the Blue Ribbon Society took place at Morrinsville. Mr W. S. Allen, as soon as he heard the meeting was to be held, with that hospitality for which he is so well known, very kinJly offereJ to provide a tea for all comers, and sent invitations in all directions. The tea, which commenced at five o’clock, was laid out in the school room (which was specially decorated h r the occasion) included all manner of good things in addition to the more substantial viands, and was done full justice to by a very large company, so large in fact that several re-lays were found necessary. After tea various games and sports, such as cricket, croquet, rounders, etc., were indulged in by those so inclined, whilst the others enjoyed themselves in social conversation and strolling round the grounds, Mr W. A. Murray enlivening the proceedings with bis bag pipes. The schoolroom having been re-arranged was quickly filled for the entertainment (which commenced at half-past seven), and found much too small for the occasion, as a large number could not be accommodated, and bad to be content with standing round the door and windows. Mr W. S. Allen presided ; and after the meeting had been opened by singing one of Sankey’a hymns, and prayer by Rev S. Lawry ; the following programme was gone through : Overture, pianoforte, Miss Mabel Cox ; song, Once Again we Meet, Master C. Snell; glee, Redeemed, Choir; recitation, The Psalm of Life, Master R. Allen ; song, The Golden Shore, Mrs Murray ; reading, How Bill Adams won the Battle of Waterloo, Mr Hall ; duet, The Goat Bells, Mis 3 J. Horrell and Mrs Cliff nd; recitation, An Inventor’s Wife, Mrs Hott ; song, Take Back the Heart, Mrs Snell ; song (comic), 1 only did as 1 was Bid, Mr Stains ; recitation, The Spanish Champion, Master M. Orr ; quartette, Bright Sparkles in the Churchyard, Mrs Snell, Mr Whitburn, Rev S. Lawry, ami Mr A. Warren; song, Believe me if ill Those Endearing Young Charm., Mr Howie ; recitation, Destruction of Sennaeharib’s Army, Master T. Allen ; oration (in lieu of an address), Rev F. G. Evans ; song, Who will Buy my Vio'ets, Miss Alice Pickett; recitation, Mona Lee, Miss Lizzie Strange. (Interval of ten minutes, during which refreshments were handed round.) Solo, pianoforte, Home Sweet Home, Mrs Jenkins ; ud dress, Rev S. Lawry ; song, Temper mice, Mr Whitburn ; «iuet, pianoforte, Miss Mabel Cox and Mr H. Cox ; song, The Better Land, Mrs Clifford ; song, The Diver, Mr E. R. Horrell ; recitation, The Wreck, MrP Turnbull; song, We Met, Miss Russell ; address, Rev T. Nome; song, No Sir, Mrs C. Murray; song, White Wings, Mr F. Horrell ; song, Mr Whitburn ; dialogue, My Lord Tomkins, the several characters being sustained as follows : Lord Tomkins, Mr F. Horrell ; Mrs Loftus, Miss A. Horrell ; Miss Loftus, Miss 1 urnbull ; Mary (housemaid). Miss J. Horrell; Jone 3 (the butler), Mr Nelson; Walter Roseberry, Mr Snell ; Catch and Muggs (policemen), Messrs P. Turnbull and Hopkins. At the conclusion of the programme a hearty vote of thanks was passed by acclamation to Mr Allen for his kindness, and three ringing cheers given for him, Mrs Allen, and famiiy ; and cn tlie motion of Mr Allen, a hearty vote of thanks was likewise accorded all those who assisted to make the meeting such a success. Owing to the great length of the programme,‘theproceedings •did not terminate till nearly eleven o’clock, but all went home well pleased with the evenings entertainment.
