NARROW ESCAPE OF LORD CLAUD J. HAMILTON.
Tjie Perils of Tiger Shooting. A London correspondent writes: —I have just seen particulars of the narrow escape which Lord Claud Hamilton had whilst tiger shooting in Mysore. Forming one of a party which also included a native prince, Lord Claud waited on a platform erected at the furthest inner side of the jungle in which it was known a tigress lay concealed. It had been arranged that he should have the fir-fc shot, the rest of the party taking up places on trees not far away. With an appalling roar a tigress bounded out from a dense nullah. After surveying the scene for a moment or two, she made straight for the spot where I he Maharajah and Lord Claud were seated. Lord Claud’s hat was accidentally knocked over his face and he was unable to fire, and the Maharajah missed the animal—so, too, did their nearest companion. On the tigress came, until she was within two or th:ee paces of Lord Claud. Just at this moment a bullet laid her low. She was nearly full grown, and measured nine feet from nose to tip of tail.
