Te Aroha and Ohinemuri News Office Tuesday. J. McNICOL AND CO’S SHEEP FAIR. J. McNicol and Co. Report.—We held our annual sheep and ram fair, at Ohaupo, on Thursday last. There was a large and representative attendance fiotn all parts of the district, and also several buyers from north of Auckland, Thames, Coromandel, ami Tauranga. The number of sheep yarded did not come up to the number entered, the long diought having caused several entries to he withdrawn. The result of the sale however, showed that there was no need to withdraw any, as all the sheep yarded, and some thousands more could have been placed at fair values. Some of the lots offeied were passed, not reaching the owners’ reserves, which were in some instances too high. Oiie feature of the fair, and a most noticeable one, was the number of sheep and lambs from the King Country, and the fine condition most of them were in, some of the inferior ewes especially were in splendid condition, and showed that there is room for several thousands of sheep in the country beyond the Puniu. We anticipate that before ninny more years have passed, much of the King Country will be carrying ma y thousands of sheep. Some of the lambs yarded were of a very superior class, particularly those of Mr C. M. Brunskill, of Taotaoroa, who topped the market with 10s Cd. Mr I). Finlnyson, of Kaiamu, also showed some fine lambs that made 8s 6d, and Mr H. haJ a particularly fiue lot of half-bred lambs at 8s 3d. Mr D. Anderson, of Pokeno, was the pureliaser of the three lines. In fact, ail the best lambs in the market fell to the bill of Mr Anderson, ltams did not sell so well as last year, owing to the large number for sale. In consequence, no averages were so high as last year, though individual sheep sold higher. Mr Storey, as usual topped the market, together with Mr Jas. Wallace, both getting guineas for their best animal. Messrs Seddon, Barugh, and McNicol, coming in together with 4 guineas each. Mr li. Bosanko got guineas each for a pen of ram lambs, tiie gets of a ram bred by Mr McNicol.
