["From our own Correspondent."]
Waiiii G. Mining Company : As reported at the time, Messrs Savage and party some months ago entered into a contract with the Company to break out 3000 ton 8 of quartz. After about 600 tons had been broken out by the contractors, an arrangement was come to with them by the Company, and the contract determined, such being the desire of the Company. Work is however being carried on in other parts of the mine, Considerable trouble is caused by the steam engine so frequently getting out of order, and a good deal of time is lost in consequence of the stoppages necessitated for repairs. Really good quartz is being obtained from the Company’s mines, but the result of treatment is not made public. The Company have made application to the Warden’s office for the right to construct a tramway, to be about four miles long, into Waluieslej'’s bush ; and there ought soon to be plenty of work for firewood cutters, as the present stock of firewood has run very low, probably only about2oo tons being now on hand. The Company’s coal hulk is also about to be sent to Auckland for another cargo of coal. The crushing is all being done on the dry crushing principle, 25 stampers being at work. The ore is roasted in a kiln prior to being fed into the stamper boxes. The meshes used are exceedingly fine, about 35U0 lmles to the square. Neither the ‘concentrator’ or White-llowell rotary furnace are - being used at present, the crushed ore being amalgamated in the ordinary way by pans and settlers
