The Farm.
(From the New Zealand Farmer.) Agriculture and Dairying 1 in Denmark. An interesting report on the agriculture and dairying of Denmark states that in consequence of the development of the dairy industry cereals are now more largely imported, owing to the growing demand for feeding stuffs for the dairies. Since 1380 the imports of bran and oilcake have giown enormously ; and last year over £900,000 were spent in these two articles alone, to say nothing of other foods, of which 80,000,0001 b were also imported. This is explained by the fact that the use of oilcake is becoming more and more prevalent ; while with this there is a tendency to reduce the quantity of rape seed used as food. “ Experience has shown,” we are told, “ that turnips are not suitable lor milch cows—in fact, roots generally are not used to improve the milk, and are not recommended unless with a view to making a change in diet. Since 1879 the imports of artificial manures have almost doubled. But in many cases this is due to the increase of raw materials by manufacturers. In fact, all the figures and facts given tend to show that greater care and attention is now being paid to agricultural matters, it appears also that the Danish draught, horse is being more sought after and appreciated, -not only abroad, but in tbo country itself. Many are exported to France, where they are used for cab horses. Prices have lately gone up 95 per cent.: the average being now £55 each. During 1888, 17,631 horses and foals were exported to Gem any, against 16,d66 in the previous year.”
