An Orange address for presentation to the Queen, as the outcome of the meeting at Dunedin of the Orange Grand Lodge, is now ready. The address states that the signers are prompted to approach Her Majesty by a strong attachment to her person and throne, and then passes on to rejoice at so much evidence of true loyalty throughout her dominions. The unhappy state of things in Ireland is said to have been the cause of much grief and humiliation to many of her loyal subjects in the colonies. The pretended patriotism of those who in that country call themselves the “National party” has been more bitterly cruel than would have been the tread of a hostile invader. Thanks are returned for that 'firm, discreet, and persistent conduct of Her Majesty’s Ministers while labouring under much contumely which has suppressed Ireland’s disorder. One source of danger is pointed out to be the secret plans of designing men who refuse to place your Majesty’s name first on the lists of those whom they honour and not seldom omit it altogether, while they invariably place the name of a foreigner in that chief position. Those men belong to an institution which has filled the land with strife, disturbed the national history with records of treachery, sedition, and treason ; made the throne Her Majesty occupies totter and tremble; made princes false to their vows ; absolved subjects from their allegiance, and deposed sovereigns from thrones, claiming always to have done right; a power which desires to repeat to-day any of the former actions.
