“ Auckland ” is the name selected by Mr E. McElwain, of Wanganui, for his three-year-old colt by Natator New Year’s dam. A trotting match between two ponies, the property of Mr A. Drake and Mr G. D. Woods respectively, for i'so a-side. recently came off on the Randwick Road, Sydney. The distance was about 2 miles, owners to drive. The betting at the start was 6 to 4 on Mr Drake's pony, which proved to be the winner. Mr C. S. Agnew’s ch c Macquarie, by The Assyrane—Eilani, carrying 6st 7lb, won the Launceston (Tasmania) Cup on tho. 6th inst-. There were ten starters, including Arsenal and the Neiv Zealand bred horse Filiki. Silvcimaik (6st 101 b), who. ran second, was only beaten on the post by a head. Macquarie also proved victorious, in the Hobart Cup, run on the 10th.
