Thames, Feb. 15. Lone Hand.— The General Chute drive at low level is now only about 40 feet distant from the boundary. When it reaches it, the drive will be continued for about 100 feet into the Lone Hand ground, and a start will then be made to drive to cut the Adelaide reef, which will be met with in 70 feet. It will thus be seen that the dead work is now nearing completion. Crushing will be commenced at Bull’s battery next week. New Alburnia.— lolb of picked stone were obtained yesterday afternoon. Hie manager also selected 201 b showing dabs and colours of gold. Trenton. —Colours of gold are seen in the drive east on the footwall reef. New Alburnia. were obtained this morning. New Prince Imperial.— The winze holed through to No. 3 level last night. Coromandel, Feb. 13. Royal Oak.— The Manager reports “ Have broken down reef to-day; 51bs picked stone, good crushing dirt. Reef broken showing good mineral, but no gold.” New Alburnia. —This afternoon, the mine manager wired, “Ten lbs fair picked stone obtained, and twenty lbs showing dabs and colours of gold.” Thames, Feb. 14. New Alburnia. More picked stone continues to come to hand from the Alburnia mine. A telegram to-day said : “ Ten pounds picked stone obtained. Not breaking down reef for a few days.” Royal Oak (Coromandel). —Mr Reid, mine manager, under date 12th inst., reports The reef in the winze was broken down yesterday on. the run, resulting in good crushing stuff and 51b picked stone. At present the reef is rather broken, but showing stronger indications for gold ; large quantity of solid mineral in the fissures of the lode. There is no gold showing at present, bub I have no doubt when the reef makes solid, gold will again be met with. In No. 3 the reef continues small; from what hae been taken down small dabs of gold are met with. Thames, Feb. 15. New Moanataiari.— 101 b picked stone was obtained to-day from the western drive on the Reuben Parr reef from the bottom of the winze at the Point Russell level. Coromandel, Feb. 15.
Royal Oak.— A good-sized reef showing colours of gold has been met with in the new ground recently added to the Company’s property. Thames, February 17. Blanciie.— There is little change to report in this mine for the past week. The country in the winze continues of an excellent description for gold, and shows a. large number of mineral seams. The reef is now being stripped. Saxon.— There is little change to report in the mine or battery for the past week. The drive on the left-hand branch of the No. 2 reef is being pushed ahead. The reef is highly mineralised, but no gold has been seen, although the quartz is of a payable nature. New Moanataiari. —The cross reef ab No. 3 level of the Cambria Company’s shaft has developed into a well-defined body of quartz, fully 18 inches in thickness, which shows some nice bright mineral. A few pounds of picked stone are occasionally got in the small stringers in the hanging-wall reef, Point Russell level, bub the dirt is not shaping so well as was anticipated. The Reuben Parr reef is from 6 to Bft thick of hard mineralised quartz. Lone Hand.— The low level is now within 25fb of the Company’s boundary. A parcel of about 30 tons of quartz from the Otama claim ab Kuaotunu has arrived here for treatment ab the Moanataiari battery, and also a 3-ton lot for some Maoris from the same district. New Moanataiari.— Driving is proceeding as usual both ways on the Reuben Parr reef from the bottom of the winze. The quartz still looks very kindly, bub no gold has yet been observed. A FINE CRUSHING. To-day the Cambria mine manager wired “Cambria crushed 97 loads quartz and 60lb nicked stone for 2560 z retorted gold.” *
After going carefully into the requirements and prospects of the county, and hearing the arguments of the County Chairman and Clerk, Mr Gordon agreed to recommend the Mines Department to subsidise the following works to the extent of one half of the actual cost Coromandel to Cabbage Bay, £2OO ; Road to Coromandel mine, t 200; Mercuryßay toKuaotunu,£36o; Wainara to Kuaotunu, £450; Sea Beach to Kuaotunu, £200; Thames-Coromandel Road, via Manaia, £500; Coromandel to Mercury Bay, £6OO ; Coromandel to Paparoa, via Kikowhakariri, £200; Coromandel to Tarawera claims, £IOO : total, £2,810. Subsidy of one-half, £2,405.
